In this fast paced society in which we live, it is hard to find couples
who can manage to meet all of their responsibilities and still have time
to help others. Jay and Christy Dougherty, owners of Pinnacle
Excavating, Inc. are one of those couples who make time to serve.
In
the last few years they have committed to a successful business venture;
one that stands as an example within the community. After being lead to
leave a major corporation where Jay was employed for 16 years, he chose
to take on the full-time responsibility of a personally owned company.
This put him in control of his own time enabling him to help those in
need. Christy also put her own personal career (RN) on the back burner
to assist Jay in this effort. All of this in the midst of a busy
lifestyle and raising their three children ages 7, 5, and 3. With all of
these responsibilities, Jay and Christy still make time to help others.
Before
their children were born, the Dougherty’s helped with meals at shelters
for people who are homeless in Baltimore and Harford County. They
personally, as well as Pinnacle Excavating, Inc., have financially
supported the fund raising efforts of FCCAU (Faith Communities and Civic
Agencies United, Inc.) the local emergency shelter. They also reach out
and help individual clients with their needs while they are trying to
get back into a self-sufficient life. Personally and thru Pinnacle, the
Dougherty’s have coordinated fund raising efforts, donated money, and
provided certificates for charity events and auctions, all in support of
FCCAU and the homeless.
Jay, utilizing Pinnacle’s equipment and expertise, made a trip to
Mississippi with a team of men to clean up and rebuild homes devastated
by Hurricane Katrina. He found it such a rewarding experience that he
has returned again and again. Christy, also oversees Pinnacle, supports
her family (including supporting her 92 year grandmother), volunteers at
her children’s school, coordinates mission efforts for Open Bible
Christian Academy and participates with various other charitable
organizations.
The Dougherty’s are to be admired as a loving and caring example of a
Christian family who sacrificially ministers to others.
